Dr. Loren started his Wall Street career as a sell side analyst at Legg Mason covering biotechnology, specialty pharmaceutical, life science-tools, pharmaceutical and chemistry outsourcing companies. While in this position, his “Select List” picks returned an average 118% upside, and his portfolio recommendations beat the Nasdaq Biotechnology and S&P indices in 6 of 6 years. In his research career, Stefan was an early member of Abbott Laboratories Advanced Technologies Division, analyzing and integrating new technological advances into Abbott’s pharmaceutical research.
Before industry, Dr. Loren was a researcher at The Scripps Research Institute working with Nobel Laureate K. Barry Sharpless on novel synthetic routes to chiral drugs. Dr. Loren received a doctorate in Organic/Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of California at San Diego. His scientific work has been featured in Scientific American, TIME, Newsweek, Discover as well as other periodicals and journals.

Stefan Loren, Ph.D., Managing Director of Westwicke Partner, LLC, brings his 11 years of Wall Street experience spanning both the buy- and sell-sides, in addition to a decade of R&D and industry experience to Westwicke clients. Prior to joining the Westwicke team, Dr. Loren worked as an Analyst/Portfolio Manager with Perceptive Advisors, a health care hedge fund, and MTB investment Advisors, a long-term oriented family of equity funds. His focus areas included biotechnology, specialty pharmaceutical, life science-tools and health care service companies. Prior to moving to the buy side, Stefan was Managing Director, Health Care Specialist/Desk Analyst for Legg Mason where he discovered, evaluated and communicated investment opportunities in the health care area to select clients. In addition, he assisted both research and investment banking teams by performing scientific due diligence and advising management teams on strategic options.
